@samseng65300 For Linux, you will have to choose a distribution to install. I would recommend using either Linux Mint (more beginner friendly) or Bunsen Labs (simpler and faster). Back up any data on the computer to an external Hard Drive/SSD before starting.
To install either of these, I would recommend using a USB drive. All other data will be erased when the Linux live partition is installed to the USB drive, so either back up the data on the USB drive or use a USB drive without any data on it.
1. Insert a USB drive with at least 8GB if space into your computer.
2. On your computer, Download Ether here. Open the EXE and install it.
3. Download Linux Mint here or download BunsenLabs here. This will probably take a while to download.
4. Open Etcher. Click "Select Image". Select the ISO you just downloaded (linuxmint-21.1-xfce-64bit.iso or beryllium-1-amd64.hybrid.iso). Click "Select Drive" and select the USB Drive you inserted earlier. Now click "Flash" and wait for the process to complete).
5.Go to Settings>Updates and Security>Recovery and click "Restart Now" under the "Advanced Startup heading.
6.After it restarts, select the "Use a Device" option. Select your USB drive.
For Linux Mint, the device will boot up and the installer should launch automatically. You can go through the installer step by step, or you can try out the distro and make sure all of your devices work.
For Bunsen Labs, choose the "Live Distribution" option first. Make sure all of your hardware works. If it does, you can restart the machine and perform steps 5 and 6 again, then choose the "Installer" option.

Unfortunately, the laptop does not stay ON for long, it will simply go to sleep. To keep the screen from going to sleep, I need to keep on depressing the "CTRL" key.
That action then prevents me from doing anything else.
One option I am considering is to reformat the laptop and re-install the OS. Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of the back-up to re-set the system.
Alternatively, anybody knows how I can re-configure the laptop to run on Linux?

Try starting the laptop in safe mode and check if it stays on without going to sleep.
