Is there a way to check ink cartridges sensor working correctly

I have tried all options appearing on internet to get my brother printer to read the cartridge insertion but have not been successful. I understand that on the newer model you can go into maintenance mode and there is a code for checking operation if the sensors. Is this available on the MFC J 6510DW.

Sides anyone else have any bright ideas?
