The matte coating on top of my trackpad is scraping up how do I fix it

so i was using my computer at school and while using it, the trackpad started to scratch up and revealed a shiny, reflective metal-like material under it. there are tiny scratches on the top and it is not very aesthetically pleasing. how do I fix this? do I put something over it or replace the trackpad itself? the coating of it is starting to scrape off and stuff.

i couldn't bring my school computer home to take photos or a closer look, but these photos are similar to what is happening to me.
