Maximum size SSD that is supported?

I currently have a 2TB SSD loaded in my laptop. I'm thinking of upgrading to 4TB but I'm finding alot of contradictory information online about if you can do it or not. To be clear, I'm not talking about adding a secondary SSD in the optical drive bay. Has anyone loaded a 4TB or even an 8TB SSD in their 2012 15" MBP?

The largest I’ve seen for a SATA 2.5” SSD is 16TB. While I doubt you will want to go this large for a laptop I do know people who have a 8TB drive. You will want to max out your RAM to 16GB as the larger drives do use more RAM for their active index

But I think you really want to know will this system support the drive. From an interface it does and macOS also can support even many larger drives than this. Apple bolstered their file system could support a full ExaByte of storage

So your good to go!
