Charging problems on iPhone 6s

Greetings all. I have a problem with charging my iPhone 6s. Last year it started giving me problems and I replaced the battery (it was due for a replacement anyway) thinking it would solve the issue only to find out it didn’t solve the problem. I then inserted a piece of rubber on top of the connectors (battery & lighting assembly connector) that did the trick. My phone worked fine until about 2 weeks back when it fell 3 times in a single week then the problem started again.

What is actually happening is that I have to press down (using my finger) the components on the inside. It could be the battery connector, sometimes when I press down the speaker as well, sometimes I just touch the small black wire with a gold head (apparently it’s an antenna) or sometimes the flexi cable that gives the logic board power from the lightning connector. It is never the same place,the charging port doesn’t yield any results I only get a reaction when I touch the components on the picture (NOTE: the picture uploaded is that of a different phone I just used it so to try & indicate what I’m talking about).

That leads me to believe there is nothing wrong with the charging port. Someone recommended I get a new lightning connector assembly but I’m a bit skeptical.

Does anyone have an idea on what the problem could be?

Tried different charger, cleaned the port, made sure the battery is properly plugged in on the logic board. I have tried everything recommended except buying a new lightning connector assembly.

In order for the phone to charge properly now I have to clamp the screen with a paper clip, the paper clip is placed on the side of the phone just above the speaker. Sometimes charging it has the opposite effect, meaning it drains the battery instead of filling it up.

I’d start with checking the solder joints on the battery connector itself. From what you’re saying it’s making a connection whenever you apply pressure in that area. It’s an old phone so could be worth double checking for dry or cracked joints.

Thanks for the input. The reason I disregard the battery is because it started doing this on the old battery & I replaced it cos it was old & assumed it’s the cause but immediately after replacing the battery still nothing changed . The only thing left would be the logoc board in itself cos that’s where the battery goes ultimately 🤷🏽‍♂️. What puzzles me is that it is never the same place,sometimes when you touch the connector on above the speaker it responds,sometimes the battery connector sometimes the antenna wire (😂😂 weird I know) but then again that wire goes along with that flexi cable (lightning connector assembly).

How this is happening is beyond me really

@Godfrey Mokwena I have a 6s that has a cracked solder joint due to ‘bend gate’. If I apply pressure just above the sim slot the phone will boot when turned on. If I remove pressure it won’t start. Sounds like you have a similar problem somewhere.

hello Godfrey,

right above the 6s speaker is the DOCK ribbon port (with the lighting socket). It is through this port that the current from the charger goes, through the cable to the motherboard (which regulates the charging operation and supplies the charging current to the battery - in some simplification). From your description, it looks like the DOCK ribbon or passive elements (electronics) related to the tasks of this port on the motherboard are damaged. Occasionally, these little things fell off during drops and required re-soldering. They are covered with an insulator, like elastic rubber, and for this reason they did not spill (possibly even it's only one element) inside the phone. Unfortunately, this can only be confirmed by measuring with a multimeter. If you know how to use it, I'll help. I will tell you what to measure and how to interpret. Otherwise, find a good repair shop with a proven reputation. Recently, a whole swarm of YT-trained technicians have appeared in the world and their knowledge is (at least) questionable.

Hi. Unfortunately I don’t have a multimeter. I just know my way around things but I didn’t really take it that far (owning a multimeter & other stuff 😅).

I think I hear you very clearly,so I suppose getting a new lightning connector assembly would be a good idea is that what you’re saying? Since from what you wrote you’re suggesting that the electricity could be having trouble flowing properly within the flexi cable.

Am I getting it right?

it's possible but it doesn't have to be the only one damage. The only real solution will be to buy a multimeter. Even one for $2. It should have diode mode measurement. This is a much cheaper solution than buying a DOCK tape. Additionally, if you copy a counterfeit tape, the phone will restart at regular intervals due to the incompatibility of the sensors. Such a strange world... if this is helped, I suggest you a buy a multimeter before you buy some replacement stuff. hopefully I helped.

Thank you for your patience, I think I’ll just take the risk and buy the component in the very big hope that it’ll fix the issue.
