Guide for replacing lightning connector?

Can someone or iFixit make guide to remove/replace the lightning connector/lower microphone assembly? I had to use multiple different guides to remove the logic board, Taptic Engine and lower speaker. Then I just needed to figure out on my own how to actually remove the connector assembly on my own. I kind of wish I knew about replacing the speaker grill gasket so I could try to keep some of the phones dust/water resistance rating.

This was my first phone repair too so I didn’t even think to replace the screen adhesive.

Hi Ian,

Most of us who frequent this site have felt your pain; I've authored quite a few guides myself simply because they didn't exist for a repair I had to do, so I took the opportunity to share my learnings with others. Keep that in mind if you run into another repair where a guide that doesn't exist would have helped you through it.

Also, it never hurts to ask for help up front; like when you found there wasn't a guide for your lightning port assembly. First off, a lot of us have built up a library of reference material; for example, if asked I would have pointed you to this guide for your repair.

Thank you Jerry! I appreciate the response. I definitely should’ve researched more before attempting my repair. I will reach out in the future. I just wanted to post a comment/question for anyone else that may go through this same issue/repair.

@ianb7 And it may indeed help someone else who runs into the same issue thanks to your comment; now you know where to find a guide and aware of the issues regarding the speaker grille and the screen adhesive.

One thing to think about is that if you didn't use screen adhesive, that means removing the screen next time will be that much easier; I've put together an iPhone in the past without it when I got it on wrong and ended up ruining it and had to reorder. It wasn't really all that difficult to remove just the screen in order to redo it with a precut adhesive sheet.

Should you decide to go ahead with that, you might want to consider doing the speaker grille as well while you're in there. It's not too bad of a repair and you can kill two birds with one stone.

Yeah, if I do go back into it, I’ll definitely replace all of those aggressive and the grills. It was for a family member so we shall see. Thanks again, Jerry!
