Is anyone an expert on joystick anatomy?

So i have a controller that need the left joystick replaced but i cannot for the life of me find an original joystick replacement, its either an old one ripped from old controller or a cheap one claiming to be original (because all the reviews said they have alot of dead zone). So my question is which part of the joystick analog that causes dead zone? Is it the mechanical rods? Is it the potentiometer?

Deadzone issues are caused by both Potentiometers AND the assembly its self, the originals all have defects, no Thumb Stick is Dead Straight and no two potentiometers are the same, regardless if you go with a third party or factory original you will still have to "re-deadzone" by tweaking the potentiometers, best practice is to aim for less than 0.10 outside the factory calibration. on a note to look out for is Range, some assemblies will sit higher than others which will cause case rub, and some sit lower causing the range to not reach 100% left or right. Make sure you don't go with cheap knock-offs if there is an affordable option with a reputable supplier, i've found the ones with Orange Potentiometers the most successful, but your mileage may vary

I bought some replacements on ebay, de soldered the old ones and soldered on the new ones. 3 controllers and 6 stick replacements. Only had 1 fail so contacted the seller to let them know and they sent 2 replacements out.
