Ethernet not connecting on device

Hey, I have a Lenovo ideapad 330 i5 8th Gen laptop running windows 11 Pro version 21H2. Recently I realize it no longer connects via Ethernet, only through wifi. I’ve troubleshooted my router and connect other computers using the same Ethernet cable with no issues, which leads me to think it’s something wrong with the laptop. I’ve done a few troubleshooting like trying to see if a driver needs to be updated but to no success. I’m hoping someone here can help. I’ll attach pictures showing my network adapters and laptop details.

Hi @shammoya

Check that the Ethernet adapter is still turned on.

Go to Device Manager > Network Adapters > right click Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller > Properties > Power Management and uncheck the box marked Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power > OK.

Close the Device Manager window and restart the PC in the normal manner and check if the Ethernet is now working.

Hey,

Thank you so much for your response. I went through and unchecked the box as you suggested then did a restart and plugged back in the Ethernet cable and still nothing. Now I’m fearing the worse 🙁

@shammoya

Run the Network Troubleshooter and check if that resolves the problem.

If still no good, uninstall the adapter in Device manager and then restart the laptop and check. Windows will reinstall it automatically on restart - go to Device manager > right click on the adapter > Uninstall device and follow the prompts

I went through all the steps in network troubleshooting shooting and ended up having to uninstall the driver but the issue still persist even after the restart. I checked the version of the driver and realize it’s running one from 2019. Realtek has since sent out several updates with the most recent being RLT8125. Is it that this new version is compatible with my laptop? If yes, do you think it best to try a manual update?

@shammoya

It won't do any harm especially since you're running Win 11, which came after the driver version you have now.

If it causes problems either rollback or unistall
