Replace proximity sensor flex

Hi, broke the front speaker flex so replaced with aftermarket. I knew I’d loose Face ID, I can live with entering PIN all the time.

But the proximity sensor doesn’t seem to work. I’ve tried two different flex’s and both won’t dull the screen during call.

Is this normal when replacing the front speaker flex?

Make sure the proximity sensor can see. By that I mean make sure it’s seated in the holder correctly and lined up with the hole in the screen.

hello Chrisinuk,

No, the new replaced ribbon should support both sensors. In this case, check the connection, you may not have properly connected the connector to the port, which sometimes happens. Remove the battery, remove the TrueDepth ribbon and re-insert it, making sure it clicks into place properly. Connect the battery and start the phone. It should work.

I will draw your attention to the fact of the proximity sensor itself. If your original ribbon is damaged, there is nothing stopping you from moving your original FLOOD sensor to a new ribbon. It's just soldering :) and Face.ID will work again well. If you can't do it yourself, find a good microelectronics workshop and order soldering, it shouldn't cost much. I will add that it should take no more than 10-15 minutes. Cost - if someone can do it, the price will be lower. There is some dependence among mechanics learning from YouTube :) the more expensive - the more likely that someone does not know what's going on.

fingers crossing,
