Phone glitching and having black screen?

I couldn't find the device listed when I was choosing for my question. My partner has a Samsung Galaxy A12. From what she's described to me in her panic: She was watching youtube, and playing an app. Suddenly, the screen glitched and there were popping sounds coming from her headphones.

Further, she turned it off completely then back on. The screen began to "glitch" and the screen went dark. She has described that the screen goes black after glitching immediately after, so she is unable to do anything: Phone calls, see if it's charged, sound is working.

From what I gather, these "glitches" seem to affect the coloring of the pixels. She hasn't tried to factory reset because the phone seems to go glitch out and blacken before she can feasibly do something.

I have told her she needs to take it in for repair when she's off work, but in the mean time I'm wondering if anyone has knowledge that I could give her? Lastly, from what I've seen there is no visible damage.

Is this a hardware issue?

Sounds like the screen has died. Is it under warranty?

Her phone is under warranty.

Is the screen considered dead even if she can use it for a brief moment before it tries to glitch before turning black?

@zazzimarshmallo I'd go the warranty route first. It's either a bad screen or a component failing on the motherboard.

The phone is doing what i call a "self check" where it will check itself before turning on, and if its broken or damaged (cosmetically or internally) , it will only flash and then turn off.

or there may be something wrong the screen, as @strongbow said, but a way to check if it is working or not is to plug it into a computer (idk if it will work with a samsung, but it works with ipods, iphones, and ipads with the same problem, so it doesn't hurt to try.) and if the computer notices something plugged in, it is a screen issue and needs a lcd replacement and/or digitizer replacement. if the computer doesn't notice ANY device plugged in, it more than likely doesn't work.

I also agree with @strongbow on the warranty thing, as it saves time and money.
