Can I upgrade my 2019 21.5" iMac PCIe/NVMe to p5 Crucial SSD?

Hi, I have 2019 21.5" iMac 3.6GHz (19.2)

I want to upgrade the PCIe/NVM2 blade SSD to 2TB model using a Crucial p5 SSD Is this possible? Or use this Crucial p2 SSD

Also, can I add the memory capacity up to 64GB?

Here's a good source of info on your system 2019 21.5" Core i3 3.6GHz iMac (4K).

This model has a Serial ATA (6 Gb/s) connector for a 2.5" hard drive. If configured with a "Fusion" Drive or an SSD at the initial time of system purchase, it also has a PCIe connector, but this connector is not present if the system only is configured with a hard drive.

So depending on your exact system it may not be populated with the custom Apple PCIe/NVMe blade SSD connection. Sadly you can't use the M2. SSD's made by Crucial as Apples is different. If present, here's the part info iMac Intel 21.5" (Mid 2017-2019, Select Models) Blade SSD Upgrade Bundle and here's the guide to put it in iMac Intel 21.5" Retina 4K Display (2017) Blade SSD Replacement while this is for the 2117 model its the same procedure and uses the same blade SSD drive. Otherwise you'll need to go with the iMac Intel 21.5" Retina 4K Display 2019 Hard Drive Replacement using a 2.5" SATA SSD.

Here's the needed RAM kit iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 3195 (2019, 4K Display) Memory Maxxer RAM Upgrade Kit to boost your system to 64GB (60-pin) DDR4 SO-DIMMs - PC4-19200 2400 MHz (for Core i3 system) or PC4-21300 2666 MHz (for Core i5/i7 systems) and here's the guide iMac Intel 21.5" Retina 4K Display 2019 RAM Replacement

Just to make this correct for future folks reading this: yes, you can use an NVMe drive in place of the Apple blade SSD, and have been able to for years as it uses the same Apple proprietary pin out as the MacBook/MacBook Pro SSD for which there has been NVMe to MacBook adapters for quite some time, including the date of the earlier reply that said no you can’t.

@infografixatl - First off not all of the systems in this series offer the Blade interface so depending n what the OP bought the blade drive may not be possible.

As far as using a M.2 SSD with an adapter over using an Apple custom blade SSD while one can do it there are issues! First off there are now four different M.2 specs so one needs to be careful which drive you use, then there is the quality of the adapter and how it effects the signal. While day one I’m sure using the correct drive you won’t see any issues, but over time you might get a surprise! And given how much work it is to get to the connector is it worth the risks? I always recommend a pin compatible drive over an adapter in iMacs either an Apple Original driver or using either an OWC or Transcend as being the ones I have seen which are quite good.

I’m only willing to play Russian Roulette with the least amount of bullets or none at all.
