Hi
I recently got given a slim from a friend with a broken disc drive and I figured I'd have ago at fixing it so I can have a spare system.
I found the fuse had blown on the motherboard which I fixed and now the disc drive works but it's making a strange noise when taking or ejecting discs. I've tried resetting the rollers, but it still makes the noise.
Anyone have any idea what could be causing it?

clean the rollers and put the case back on just detach the rollers and use isopropyl alcohol if that doesn't work i think u need a new pair of disk rollers

Probably should have said I tried removing the rollers but it still makes the noise like its catching on something.
Sounds like it's coming from the gear mechanism.
You can also hear it when i manually turn the screw.

Maybe you missed a screw somewhere, it sounds like upper and lower mechanism not fully engaging with each other and the gears are slipping.

How easy is it to get to backside of the disc drive?
Will I need to remove everything to get to it?
Can't see anything loose from the top side the gears seem like they are where they should be.
@andrewtjb If the slim is similar to non slim, it shouldn't be too hard to get just the top half off. Unscrew the flat screws at each corner of the drive, unclip some clips and lift the top off.
Do it ONLY in an unloaded state, otherwise it is difficult to get the mechanisms to align back together.
Thanks I'll have another go tomorrow see if I can see anything loose.
