Removing Moisture from INSIDE Camera Module

Hi all,

Dunked my phone in a pool after a screen replacement - moisture seeped in through a small break in the adhesive sealer. I was able to crack open the phone and get all the moisture out with one exception - inside the main camera module itself. It seems that the camera module's ability to move somewhat compromises its water integrity, and as such I can see some small bubbles on the inside of the module itself.

Here's a handy dandy pic.

I've already run a fan over the camera module for several hours, but no luck. I've also wiped it with a microfiber - it's definitely inside the module itself.

Anything to be done here? The rest of the phone works fine, except for the TrueDepth Camera which is borked. I can live without Face ID for a few months while I wait for the 14 to come out, but a camera right before a big vacation... unless I can fix it I might have to shell out the $200 insurance deductible.

Unless you're an expert cellphone repair tech with access to technical info, your options are few; leave it alone and pay for repairs or experiment on dissembling whatever's necessary for access to sop up moisture inside the lens and CMOS image sensor with a Q-tip. Meddling in precision camera components may result in misalignment possibly resulting in out of focus images or permanent damage. Dissembling cellphones may be analogous to attempting watch repair of mechanical movements.

From a repair tech's perspective, I would just order a new module. Luckily you should be able to order one directly from Apple and have it programmed so you won't have an "unknown part installed" message. https://selfservicerepair.com/home

I'm not sure if you intentionally took your phone swimming, but typically after the device has been opened, you can't trust the liquid resistant seal, even if you do replace it. I don't even trust it brand new out of the box.

Whoa, this seems like a great option. The bundle for iPhone 12 camera would save me... $150! What does it mean by "system configuration tool"?

@vexir apple serialized the parts and the camera may not function properly after replacement, despite it being genuine and a message will pop up notifying you the part may not be genuine. You'll need to call a number and they're going to verify that your device IMEI number matches what you provided them upon ordering. They'll run system configuration and it'll get rid of that message. But yes, it's a great option and a step closer to right to repair. Now if only they didn't make you jump through so many loopholes or limit how many parts you can order, or allow access to more parts for older devices.
