Half the Picture is Black

Hi,

About a week ago, I noticed when I took a few pictures half of the image was covered in solid black.

I changed shutter speeds, reset the camera to factory settings and changed lenses but nothing seems to resolve the issue.

Now all my pictures have this issue so it seems to be progressive.

A local repair place said it might be something to do with the mirror box.

Any advice is appreciated.

Update (06/06/2022)

Hi, Thank you for the response. The Mirror does go up quickly and back down again. Looking at the pics, it is the top of the image that is black.

Put the camera into Bulb mode with the lens off, when you press the shutter does the mirror go up quickly? Also when you release the shutter the mirror should snap back down. Often the cushion at the bottom and at the top of the mirror box gets gummy so it causes the mirror to stick. That is if the bottom of the image is black with a soft edge.

@Robert Hicken - the images is inverted (upside down) when it hits the CCD detector which is why the image is why the bottom edge (ground) would be dark (just like a film camera) if the upper edge is dark then that would be the CCD sensor having some damage or something is sitting on top of it blocking the light from reaching it.
