Why does the Aria eat batteries? (fixed)

As they get older, a FItbit Aria scale can drain four AA batteries in a week. Batteries should last months. This is apparently a common problem, possibly due to strain gauge sensors becoming flaky over time. Has anyone found a fix?

I have the same problem to I am guessing because the contacts are touching and draining power.

I don't think mine is a contacts problem. If I place the scale in my peripheral vision, the display seems to turn on spontaneously, and then times out and sleeps. It does this dozens of times per hour, which would be the reason for eating batteries. I found several mentions of flaky pressure sensors in the feet, triggering the display. If I could find a source for the sensors, I could replace them to see if it fixes the problem.

Clean the scale of dirt buildup. Is your home very humid, possibly triggering the scale turning on? Tried customer support?

With further research, I found that the Aria has a poorly designed activation mechanism in the feet, with a plastic flex part that breaks, causing the activation contacts to randomly short, which keeps turning on the display. This happens repeatedly from any vibration or temperature change, and drains the batteries. The solution is to repair the flex part, possibly with glue or resin, or 3d print the replacement part from thingverse.

If you can, post a snapshot of a faulty pad switch.

I found someone nearby who printed the thingverse part, and successfully replaced the two broken flex parts (that were cracked in multiple places). The scale seems to work fine now and only activates when I step on it.

I can post pictures and details if anyone is interested.
