Shuts down (Ati controller on the report)

My 27in imac is crashing and the report said that the Ati controller is at fault.

Does this mean the GPU is failing?
Newly format with high Sierra with 12gb RAM

Sadly that’s does sound like GPU board (ATI = AMD) I’m suspecting the VRAM has overheated.

I would see if cleaning the fans and heat sink fins of the dust and debris as that often is the root issue. You may want to go one step farther removing the GPU board to clean off the old thermal paste and pads ands replacing the paste and the pads. I think you’ll find the pads are shriveled up and almost useless.
