Powershot has blank LCD screen

I have a Powershot D30. While traveling recently the camera display stopped working. I found that it is still taking photos (by downloading the memory card) but the LCD was not illuminating (no images, menus, etc.) If I plug the camera in to my computer the LCD turns on but is stuck on the last photo taken. I’ve tried replacing battery, removing card and battery then pressing power 5 times to drain power (recommended by Canon phone support) with no luck. They report camera is no longer serviceable by them. Hoping to fix it as it has been a great little camera so far.
