Are AirPods Pro equipped with an audio gate or limiter?

When I’m listening to AirPods Pro with conversation Boost engaged, and transparent mode on, the transparent mode intermittently turns off by itself, then back on by itself.

It reminds me of an audio gate or audio limiter. Sounds located near me, including my voice, appear to trigger the gate/limiter, which in turn seems to close off the source mics which pick up the external sounds around me. Within ten seconds or so, the audio gate/limiter opens up again allowing external sounds around me to be clearly heard again via the AirPods Pro’s external microphones. The transparent mode continues to behave as such until toggled to ANC only mode of operation.

If this is actually a feature, are settings available to at least change the threshold by which the gate/limiter is engaged?

Your thoughts regarding this matter are greatly appreciated. Thank you.  - MSNau
