The Lumea is closed pretty tied, first you will have to take off the lens cover. This way you can wedge something small between the seal, starting at 2, and work your way down to 4. Take your time for this, because there are some thin wires right beneath the cover, between numbers 3 and 4, on this side of the Lumea.
Disconnecting the battery pack
Once you opened the Lumea you can’t take out the battery pack yet, first, you will have to disconnect to PCM (protection circuit module) wire from the circuit board. You can just pull out the tiny connector. When done, you can disconnect the black and red wire on the battery pack itself and slide out the batteries.
Creating the new battery pack
As mentioned at the beginning, you will need 2 UR18650W batteries with C-type battery taps and a good soldering iron. The batteries may come pre-charged, so keep the covers on the positive side tabs until you are going to solder it.
We need the PCM wire for the new battery pack, so first, you need to desolder the wire from the old battery pack. The wire is also glued in the center, use a small knife to cut it loose.
New battery pack creation in steps
- Align the batteries
- Trip the long soldering tips to which you will connect the main wires and fold the other 2 tabs.
- Solder the tabs and connect to PCM wires as described below
For the new battery pack, we need to solder the positive and negative sides to each other. Trim the taps a little so they can overlap each other when the batteries are taped together. Then apply some tin to each tap where they make contact. Place the 2 together and apply some heat to it to solder the two taps.
Next, we need to reconnect the PCM wire, just simply solder the white and black where to the negative side of the batteries. When done you will have a similar result as below. As of last we need to adjust the taps for the main wires from the Lumea. I have chosen to cut them to the right size so I could reconnect the original connectors, but I have to say, they sit a bit lose, so you might want to solder them also.
When the battery pack is done, al is left the reassemble the Lumea. First, reconnect the black and white PCM wire, then the red wire, and last the black one. You might see a small spark when connecting the last wire, this is caused by the capacitor that will recharge.
