New battery not charging to 100%

Hello,

I recently replaced a MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2012 battery and followed the formatting procedure, however the battery capacity is not 100% after removing the charger. Instead, it instantly drops to 88%.

Could it be that the battery I got is faulty?

These are some battery stats:

--- TLP 1.3.1 --------------------------------------------

+++ Battery Features: Charge Thresholds and Recalibrate

natacpi = inactive (laptop not supported)

tpacpi-bat = inactive (laptop not supported)

tp-smapi = inactive (laptop not supported)

+++ Battery Status: BAT0

/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/manufacturer = ifixit

/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/model_name = bq20z451

/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/cycle_count = 6

/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/charge_full_design = 8600 [mAh]

/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/charge_full = 7578 [mAh]

/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/charge_now = 7108 [mAh]

/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/current_now = 2605 [mA]

/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/status = Discharging

Charge = 93.8 [%]

Capacity = 88.1 [%]

Thanks for your answer, unfortunately I am running Ubuntu not OSX. Do you know any other tool that can get the same info? Thanks.

@alex2012 - Just create a bootable external drive (a USB thumb drive will do with macOS on it)

Linux and Ubuntu don't have full access to the SMC services as that is only available via macOS API's

Thanks Dan. I will give that a go and report back.
