NEW battery will not charge

I replaced battery with new one. It is half full and ipod works normally EXCEPT when placing new and different ipod connectors nothing happens. NO charging icon and NO connection to computer when connected to it. Checked with different cables and checked ipod for broken pins (does not look like it) and blasted with air as well to make sure it is clean. Any suggestions on how to fix?
