Others seeing issues with Dyson V11 power switch?

Getting ready to open up the V11 as the NO intermittent power switch trigger is having issues and will occasionally not turn OFF when released (in contrast to some of the earlier Dyson model reported issues). This appears to be a bad switch/connection under the red trigger button as it could be silenced by pressing to the side (which may have helped kick the button back up underneath). I am simply trying to do my homework here to see if this was a common issue or an anomaly, in case there was anything more nefarious that had been seen or reported by others.

I had printed a 3D trigger replacement (search on Thingiverse.com for various options/models) for a trigger but while reading I came across descriptions of connection issues with the battery pack inherent in the Dyson design. I had stored mine in a vertical stand and the weight of the battery, combined with the downward pressure from my hand when in use holding the grip, causes the battery pack to slip down within the handle sleeve assembly (battery, trigger, and handle assembly were all fine in my case, but was experiencing the Dyson sticking ON).

While I don’t have a elegant solution yet, simply adding a zip-tie around the battery to keep it in place and not “sagging” down slightly within the handle grip sleeve had fully resolved this issue from the OEM design fail for me and took seconds to execute for less than a penny. :)

We are doing the same! We replaced the trigger that did have a crack, but the battery "sags" out the back too. Not sure if a new battery would fix that.

I have same issue from my Dyson V11. I am an electrical engineer qualified. The trigger design should be fix up.

I have a Dyson V11 cordless hoover - excellent, until it wasn’t. I rang Dyson and was told that the reason the hoover was cutting out was a problem with the battery. Having explored the internet, I was aware of a recurring problem with the plastic trigger. Dyson insisted that the problem was the battery (replacement cost £80+).

I went on eBay and got a replacement trigger for £9.95. It took me an hour to replace the trigger involving three tools. It now works perfectly.

Apart from saving over £70 I was also worried about the procedure for replacing the trigger. It involved three different tools, one specialist, when one would have been perfectly adequate, and bending two contacts to feed through a moulding. Whatever happened to designing for maintenance?

Dyson used to be really good for maintenance. What has gone wrong?

I have a Dyson V11 and I have never had this kind of problem before. I have heard of the actual button sticking, but not failing altogether.

I too have had problems with the vacuum turning on intermittently without pushing the trigger and in some cases will not turn off when you release the trigger. After disassembling the head unit I discovered that the plastic tab inside the handle that the back battery screw, screws into was broken. This allows the battery to move ever so slightly up and down within the handle. The red trigger button is simply a lever to push a button built into the battery, when the battery is able to move downward ever so slightly it does not allow the trigger to reach the built-in on off button on the battery. This is an incredibly poor design as all it would probably take is one fall of the vacuum to break that small plastic tab inside the handle. If you're able to turn on your vacuum by simply putting downward pressure on the battery or cannot turn the vacuum off unless you press the battery up into the handle this broken internal tab is most likely the problem.

Hi Gary, I am having issues right now that it turns off while I press the button… Let me know if you were able to open up the vacuum cleaner and solve the issue
