Pavilion - 15-cx0599sa So Slow since I bought it

Bought this laptop in Feb 2020. Just can’t understand why its so slow. bought from currys clearance but now outside warranty. Im an NHS Clinician and need it to be faster for my consultations etc. It’s always been slow though. I barely have anything loaded on the huge hard drive. never downloaded music or movies on it. it has nvidia geforce gtc and 8th gen core i5+. I’ve got paid for business subscription for malware bytes and F-Secure premium subscription. no viruses or anything.

Is the drive SSD or HDD. If a mechanical HDD replace with Solid State drive, but do jayeff's suggestions first.

Hi,

Some things to try and see if it resolves the problem.

i) Run a sfc command and see if it finds and fixes anything and if so then check the laptop’s performance.

ii). Check how may programs are being started when the laptop is first being turned on that may not be wanted and may be using system resources unnecessarily.

Right click on the Taskbar, then select Task Manager >Startup to view the programs. Some may be required so if you don’t recognize them search online for the program name to find out what they’re for. Some programs are loaded to speed their opening when you click on them to use them at some time but if you use them rarely they’re just using resources better used elsewhere.

If you think that a program is not really necessary to be pre-loaded at startup, right click on the program entry and select disable > OK and then restart the laptop and check if it better or not. If doing this causes a problem go back and enable the program in Startup the same way as you disabled it and then restart the laptop.

iii) Start the laptop in safe mode and check. The screen display will look different because only generic Windows drivers are loaded and not hardware specific drivers. If it works OK (better) in safe mode, check that all the drivers, especially the display adapter driver are up to date.
