Retrieve Data from Failed Logic Board

I am trying to help out a friend who apparently is in the dark regarding Time Machine. She has a 2016 MacBook Retina from 2016. Model A1534 EMC 2991. When booting it goes to the flashing folder with a question mark. Booting into recovery, the system does not see the local storage. Target mode is also unsuccessful. My guess is that the logic board has failed. If that is true, can the data be retrieved from the storage chip(s) on the logic board?

I saw in this article

https://9to5mac.com/2016/11/24/apple-spe...

Apple had a special tool for Macbook Pros but the logic board had a special connector that was apparently later removed from the logic board. The connector allowed the logic board to be accessed by the special tool. Does anyone know if the logic board on the A1534 had the connector and if so, whether Apple support still offers that? Is anyone aware of any other method of retrieving the data? I tried a third party tool from a bootable USB but that returns the same result as disk tools (no local storage seen).

I also was not sure if data recovery services could access at this level (even though I am sure it would be very expensive if they could). She has photos that she wants to retrieve but I am not sure what they are worth to her :-). Any suggestions?

Sadly, the MacBook’s don’t have any recovery options like the MacBook Pro did (the newer T2 models don’t offer it any more)

Unless you can get it going long enough to salvage your data there is no hope here. Sorry ;-{

From your experience, does this design also rule out commercial data recovery as well? I am guessing so but thought I would confirm.

@Steve This is a common problem for this device. You might want to contact someone like Rossmann repair group. I have herd of some success for this exact problem by reballing the SSD controller.

@imicrosoldering - Sadly, its an expensive throw away.
