Can water break this?

My son put water in mine thinking it was my carpet shampooer and now it won’t run right. It sounds like it’s slowly dying

Hi,

Water and electricity are not a good combination.

The impurities in the water provide circuit paths for the electricity that weren’t in the cleaner’s operating design and could damage any electrical components. It also creates corrosion which starts immediately and doesn’t stop until it has been properly cleaned away.

I suggest that you disconnect the power from the cleaner and then you open it up and inspect for any obvious damage and clean away any corrosion and water that is evident.

Here’s the iFixit Shark DuoClean Powered Lift-Away Speed repair guides that will help.

Be safety aware, do not reconnect the power to the cleaner to check if it working OK after you may have fixed the problem, unless it has been completely reassembled or that you know how to work safely with exposed lethal AC voltage. It’s not worth it. If in any doubt, contact a reputable, professional appliance repair service and ask for a quote
