Why is it just not charging

When I plugged my type c in all it made was a weird static noise, I then brought it to a repair shop and the guy said that he motherboard snapped from faulty design. I did a bit more research and found out it could also just be the type c. I looked under the rubber feet where the screws to open it are and only one (one I removed the rubber feet residue from) was not covered, I could clearly see the other one was not removed. To be honest my knowledge is more in pc’s that laptops. I really need to get this fixed as I’m having to use a laptop with a Pentium n4000 and 2gb of ram and a terrible Wi-Fi chip only capable of up to 12 mbps.

  • Unplug your charger. Remove 8-10 (usually 9) screws from the bottom. Flip the chromebook keyboard facing up and take a credit card or spudger tool and insert it about an 1\8” in between the keyboard and frame starting at the upper right hand corner and gently apply pushing to the outside frame until it begins to separate from the keyboard. Work you way down the right side prying up on the keyboard as you go until you reach the bottom. You should be able to use you hand now and slowly remove the rest of the keyboard. ****It will take a bit of force. There are 3 ribbon cables attached to the board from the keyboard Do Not pry up more then about 2 inches as your going. Now you will see where the battery plugs into the motherboard. Gently pull on both sides of the connector until the battery is disconnected from the board. Now plug in your charger then while it's plugged in connect your battery back to the board. Check for the charge light and see if it turns on. Disconnect your charger and reassemble.
  • Make sure you are using the correct charger for your chromebook. Type C's should have a thick block style charger that's larger then a typical phone charging block. Usually it's a 33-45 watt. You can take a usb c cable plug it into your chromebook and the other end to a charge bank or certain smart phones that support device charging. See if the port lights up on your chromebook. If the charge light comes on red usually means charging and it maybe orange on some. I believe it should be solid though and not blinking or anything. See if you can get it charged enough to turn on. If it turns on then most likely it's your charger.
  • If you can get it to turn on try holding down ctrl and alt and press the T key. This should open crown terminal. Type “battery_test” and press enter. This will test the battery and also tell you if the charger is doing anything when it's plugged in and if it's supplying enough juice.
  • You can try your charger on another device to make sure it is working properly. If you v get notifications like “slow charging" or error you should definitely try a different charger. Check and make sure it says 5 volts on the bottom of your chromebook. It should but hey I've seen crazier.
  • Next with your chromebook opened up there is sometimes a small fuse on the board where the dc cable coming from the charger port plugs into another area of the motherboard. Replace the fuse or check it for continuity with your multimeter. You. An also just use a small pie e of wife to jump the connection in place of the fuse. This will leave you board unprotected though.
  • Next step would be to check the port to see if power is passing through it. You'll use a multimeter set to DC volts and check for 5v directly through the connector on the wider joints the pins go through. No power means bad port. You would then order a replacement port, and everybody's method differs here but while may e you could use a fine tip on an iron with some thin wick to pull the wider I'd recommend tapping off the area and running hot air. I personally would cover the kapton tape with some metal hvac tape and use a smaller tip at 400 degrees and around 80 air. Don't forget to use flux and clean the area very well once removed. But if you've never done this you will most likely (98% chance) destroy your board, melt something around it or at the very least tombstone nearby components.
  • Next would be.. I'd have to be looking at it at this point. Chromebooks might have mosfets protecting the board like laptops, but idk. If they did it'd be probably 2 small chips near the power power 4 points on each side. You'd have 1 whole side that'd test for your voltage like 5V or 19V for most. If all four to - on that side tested then you check the first pin on the opposite side for the same volt reading. You have to have voltage on the gate for the voltage to pass through. Ok I'm stopping there. I hope this helps. Good luck ?
