13" aluminum unibody, 2.0 or 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo processor.

What kind of memory can I upgrade to?

OK, so the genius at the bar said that I could upgrade my mac to 8 gigs of ram and here on ifixit.com it states only up to 6 gigs is possible. so as was searching for memory i found descriptions such as low energy, unbuffered, and unregistered. Is there a certain type of memory only apple and ifixit.com can provide? I was a pc girl only until recently and I used to just switch out my pc memory all the time. I rather sound like a newb and get the correct help before I do something bad to my macbook. Thanks in advance

Yes, 8 GB of PC3-8500 DDR3 RAM is possible in your laptop. I found the following listed on EveryMac:

"Apple officially supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM. Originally, this model was only unofficially capable of stably supporting 6 GB of RAM, but as confirmed by site sponsor OWC, it is capable of supporting 8 GB of RAM if updated to Boot ROM Version MB51.007D.B03 and running MacOS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" or higher."

You would need two 4 GB RAM chips.

Hope that helps!
