MacBook will not project to external monitor
My macbook’s screen is smashed along with the LCD and this means that I cannot see what is on the screen, logically I thought plugging it into an external monitor would fix this issue however to no avail in the HDMI port and both thunderbolt ports (I checked to see if the USB’s were working and they appeared to be). The MacBook’s backlight is working and there is no liquid damage present on the logic board. The caps lock key lights up but the keyboard backlight does not work. When powering on the machine it chimes but I cannot see what is on the screen because of the damage. I have tried resetting NVRAM and PRAM and SMC but none of these worked. Any help?
It is possible that the macbook is not booting into the OS and therefore doesn't know to output to HDMI/Thunderbolt ports. Since the 2015 MBP has it's own HDMI port, it should work, however, that maybe because the system is having a display issue.
Backlight and screen output are not necessarily the same circuit path and one may work without the other.
One thing to try (and you may have done this already) is to plug in the HDMI to a monitor before booting up the mac and pressing D. When you hear the "chime", close the lid. This brings it into diagnostics mode which SHOULD work on the HDMI output if the video display portion of the board is working properly. (I could be wrong here as it's been awhile since I have used the AHT)
