Doesn't turn on after heating

Hello, I started recently with fixing electronics and I came across a problem with an iPhone Xs Max which I tried to fix. When I bought the iPhone it had a cracked back and a bad speaker. So I started with removing the motherboard and screen and than I heated the back. I think I heated it way to much because it wasnt turning on, so I replaced the battery because it started to smoke..... Do you guys have any idea what could be wrong else? Please help me, I have no other idea what it could be after I replace the battery and I think the motherboard and screen are save to....

I’m not really sure what you mean by “I think I heated it way to much” What did you put heat on? If you heated the logic board you have probably damaged some components on the board or the pads on the interposer board.

If you didn’t put heat on the logic board you would need to put it in a known good housing to rule out a parts issue. That is of course if the smoke came from the battery and not the logic board.

If it still doesn’t boot in a known good housing you will need to take some measurements with a multimeter and DCPS to find the line that is stopping it from booting.

Hi, I have got an amp meter, do you have any idea what I could check to know what parts are fautly and which aren't? I also have an device which meassures how much amps is going in the device and it says their goes 0 amps in, so I think that the dock connector is faulty. Could I be right? And I heated the back of the iPhone with a heatgun from 40 to 400 degrees, the logic board, screen and camera where than removed. Thank you so much for answering, you are really helping me!

@ingmarius You cannot diagnose a phone with an amp-meter it will only tell you if it is charging or not. I suspect you put way too much heat on the phone. The XS Max is a layered board and the solder connecting the two halves is low melt solder. Having said that you really need to rule out faulty parts which is why I suggested putting it in a known good housing. If you haven’t got a good housing at least try it out of the housing with a good battery, screen and dock connector and see if at least you get an apple logo.

Hi Chris, thank you very much for all the advice! I am very new here, as you suspect I guess... I wil replace the dock connector and see if it turns on! Do you have any idea if all the parts have a low melting point?

完成的

@ingmarius The interposer board is the only part that has low melt unless it has prior repairs. But the crucial parts such as CPU, NAND, and Baseband are under-filled which means if you put too much heat on the board it will cause bridging under them. If you rule out parts there will not be a lot you can do to diagnose the problem unless you have got the experience and proper equipment.

Hi Chris, just installed the dock connector and now it turns on! Thank you very much for this!!!! Only problem left is a software problem... It doesn't show the battery health, doesn't always show the procent and doesn't always show if it is charging or not... And wireless charging doesn't work. Any idea how to fix this and any idea if the charging coil on xs max is the same as on the x?
