Fatal error when opening camera

I've taken apart my 3ds a few times to fix buttons, the lower LCD, battery replacement, etc. Now I'm running into something fatal.

I took it apart once again last night to reconnect my R and L button cable. I put the system back together and opened the camera app to test them. They worked, but then it went totally black with the lower screen saying an error has occurred and I needed to restart it manually.

This happens anytime I open the app or use the home screen shortcut. Neither the front or back camera worked when I opened Face Raiders, however it didn't crash the system.

Is this a hardware problem that will require the camera to be replaced, or is it a program error?
