iPhone 6 doesn't charge, when plugged in IT bootloops.

I've searched far and wide for an answer and I just can't find anything definitive..

My iPhone 6 does the following:

When not plugged in, it does absolutely nothing. Doesn't boot, doesn't show low battery.

When plugged into the wall with a genuine charger, it shows the red battery symbol, nothing else. No indication it's charging, and I let it sit like that for 30 minutes, then the following happens:

The apple logo comes on, stays for 5 seconds about, then turns off and tries again. About 5 times and then it stops.

What I've done so far:

Changed the battery, to a refurbished one, nothing changed.

Tried to go into recovery, it only works when plugged in and iTunes doesn't see the phone when connected.

My question now: is this a specific collection of symptoms, maybe for a tristar chip damage? Or is that just a software problem? Is the phone savable?

Was the refurbished battery a known good battery? Or did you buy a “refurbished” one from online and plug it in? Have you tried disconnecting anything else like the cameras or charge port and try to boot it up?

@hootonberg I bought the battery on ebay from a commercial seller that described it as used and genuine. Can't say more than "I thought it looked good" lol

Are bad batteries known to cause issues like this? If so that's a good lead

I will also try to boot the thing with cameras and or charge port unplugged to see if that helps it, thank you!

@refectio I actually bought the phone on ebay as well. It was described as having this problem but I thought it would just be a bad battery, but I'm only starting with the iPhone repairing so I don't have much experience

@slapmyface never trust parts sold on eBay, Amazon, Craigslist, Wish, or AliExpress as they have no quality control over phone parts. Odds are you did purchase a dead battery that was labeled as "genuine OEM". Try sourcing parts from reputable suppliers like Mobile Sentrix, Injured Gadgets, and Mobile Defenders. Those are the top three suppliers and offer not only quality parts but also a great warranty to back them.

Buying water damaged or terminally ill devices on eBay rarely works out well. For every device that just required a simple fix because the seller couldn’t be bothered, there are also rabbit hole devices that have probably been looked at by on or more techs before giving up. It really all comes down to luck.

However, all is not lost, you know have a device that you can really practice on. And you may still be able to fix it with some luck.

To properly troubleshoot devices, it is always important to have high quality new or known-good replacement parts. Do a thorough visual inspection of the device; take the logic board out and closely inspect it for signs of physical damage (connectors, components etc.). Look at all the flexes and insure there aren’t any tears. Look for even the tiniest tear! Also look to see if there are any signs of water damage.

Then report back!

First of all thank you if course. Yes, I bought the phone with the full knowledge that it might just be dead, but in this case I see no sign of water damage (discoloration) or previous repair attempts, and the seller also more seemed like the "my phone doesn't turn on and I can't be bothered to fix it honestly" type of guy. But yes, I will of course take this as a learning opportunity! Off to inspect the board. Thank you very much!
