Replacing Logic Board question

Hey friends,

I've been receiving the dreaded question mark on startup, and gone through all the usual troubleshooting…my SSD does not show up in disk utility… bought a new SSD thinking this might fix… Still not showing up. Looks like this may be a Logic Board issue…

In searching online, it seems as though the logic board for this particular model is rather expensive and harder to find than other A1466 models from different years….

My question is… can I install a different A1466 model logic board from a different year into my mac? I realize this would be a downgrade, but at this point I just need a working computer at an affordable price…

Are you really sure you really need a new logic board? A blinking question mark is when the system can't find the a bootable OS (system folder). The only thing here would be a damaged SSD slot other than the SSD its self. That could be fixed!

Let’s try this with your original SSD installed, restart your system and this time press the Option (⌥) key to enter into the startup manager. Do you see your SSD? If you do using the error keys elect it did the system startup? If it did you’ll need to go into your systems preferences and alter the Startup Disk setting as its lot set to your internal drive.

OK it didn’t start up ;-{ Then did you try OS recovery?

I have tried many of those key combinations to no avail.

The option key does not show any ssd.

Internet recovery does not show any ssd.

I'm open to it simply being a connection to the SSD being bad, but the slot is soldered onto the board, and I can't find just that part, and am less confident to attempt that fix over replacing the whole board…

Do you have an answer for the original question? Will any A1466 board be compatible to my laptop?

Someone with good soldering skills could replace the connector. I've replaced a few where people lifted the SSD damaging the socket in the process, instead of sliding it out.

Yes, you could use an older logic board if you must. Parts right now are difficult to get as everything is messed up due to COVID.

Where do you live? Country and nearest city, maybe will can aim you to someone who can fix your logic board.
