Screen darkened and only keyboard showing.

Hello!

I woke up this morning to find my phone refusing to work. Upon lighting up, the screen is stuck with a bright white/yellow block where the keyboard should be, with faint keyboard markings. The rest of the screen is very dim and can’t really be seen around it. Have tried restarting it several times but i can’t open the lockscreen or access the phone due to the keyboard block. Screen is not cracked or broken either.

(sorry for terrible image quality. had to use an old webcam for the photo)

Can you post an image of the phone showing the yellow / black block on the bottom of the screen? I suspect the screen display is failing.

Try booting the device into safe mode and see if the problem still persists. If not there is a application that is most likely causing the problem and you'll need to either disable it or uninstall it.

thank you! i'm unable to get past the lockscreen to be able to shut the phone down properly, as the keyboard is blocking me from doing anything. Have tried connecting to my PC to no avail as the screen needs to be unlocked for me to access files.

You can hold the power + volume down + bixby button for about 5-10 seconds to force the phone to shut off. Then you can power the phone on again after doing so.

After doing this, it prompted me to accept an install of a custom OS? is this normal?
