LG 47lb5800 Blue screen, no video or sound, but stays on.

As the title states. I have tried resetting the tv by holding down the power button, I have replaced the main board and still the same problem. I can see the led strips do works through the small holes on the back of the tv. There are no domed capacitors on the power supply board, i dont think the tv would stay on if it was the power supply board. Please help.

Steph  … this sounds like a failed tcon board. This is why you are seeing just a blue screen. to test:

unplug one side of the ribbon cable from the tcon board at a time. Lvds from main board leads to tcon board. may be under metal plate. at the bottom of the tcon board there are two ribbon cables that lead to your lcd displays buffer boards)

power off, unplug left side. power on. check picture. power off, reinsert ribbon on left and unplug ribbon on right, power on check picture.

@jostewcrew you're absolutely right, half the screen is white and the other half is just vertical lines. Good thing is it'll only be a $10 repair. Thanks a ton sir!!

@Steph ... ouch... the vertical lines may indicate a potential panel fault. if the tcon doesnt fix the issue...thats the culprit. Make sure you get your boards from a reputable vendor that will take them back if not needed. Youll lose the shipping but at least you wont be completely out.

good news though, if the lines are all symmetrical and dont move location upon any cable movement, it will be the tcon board. if you notice bands get thicker than the others and the position changes at all, its probably the panel. also, if it is the panel, it may just be located on the buffer boards that are attatched to the panel. further diagnosis with a multimeter will pin point if so.

@jostewcrew just checked the lines dont move at all, went ahead and ordered a t con board and will update if that has fixed the issue in time. thanks.

@jostewcrew I just got the t con board today, I replaced it and im having the same issue as before. The side that is white is unplugged from the tcon board, while the vertical lines side is plugged into the tcon board. Do you think the issue is with the bufferboards?

@Steph ...yes. if the tcon didnt solve it, its the panel. This may be the buffer boards. i would look for any shorts to ground and follow up by checking the small capacitors. if nothing jumps out, im afraid thats all i got for this set.

the only other hail mary is to strip the set down to where you can access the gate and source tabs for the display and see if one looks like its burnt or torn or something. if one goes, it makes the rest fail.
