55sk8000pua dark left strip LED

Bought this TV ~2yrs ago, with 2yr support from GeekSquad @ Best buy. Called them for support, though with this pandemic I had no luck on being served in NYC. Now my support is over. I’m still calling there, without any hope.

Regardless of the support from GeekSquad, I’m wondering if it should be a simple fix. I’ve tried resetting image settings, without any look.

Before buying a new TV (not on BestBuy —never again, unless they fix my tv), I was wondering what could be the issue on my tv and how to fix it.

Any help appreciated.

It seems that you answered your own question.

It looks like there is a problem with the LED backlighting in that area of the screen.

It won’t be a problem with a board as the board powers all the LEDs as groups and not just individual ones.

The TV would have to be dismantled to a point where the LED strips are accessible and the diffusers, LEDs and the LED strips can be checked and tested.

Here’s a video that shows how it is done. Whilst it is not for your exact model the principle is the same.

Like most things if you've never done it, it seems difficult ;-)

Fixing it yourself or getting it fixed professionally may still be cheaper than a new TV though.

If you do decide to try, and it is a strip or a faulty LED and not just a diffuser that has come loose, then ensure that you get the correct replacement parts.

@jayeff I’ll take a look on how to get it fixed. I’m sure a professional would be the best.

In quarantine life staying few days without the only tv I have will be tough.

Check with the repair services. Some might offer "loaner TV sets" while yours is being fixed.

It never hurts to ask and even if it costs a few dollars rental then it may be worth it, especially if getting the required parts (if necessary) may take a few days etc. Just a thought.
