Need to keep freezer at -6 F

My duplex fridge was set at -4 F on the freezer and 40 F on the fridge side, it feels cold but ice cream is softer than it should be and ice in the ice bucket stuck together from melting a little so I guess is not freezing correctly. I set it up at -6 F and now it is freezing fine but I know the temperature is set too cold! I know it should be at 0 F but am afrait if I set it to 0 F things will get spoiled…. what should I check? Thank you!

Hi,

Try placing a thermometer in the freezer and refrigerator compartments and check what temperatures it shows just in case the fridge's display temperatures aren't really correct. Allow the thermometer about 15 minutes to stabilize before reading the temperatures.

If the thermometer reading matches the display then at least you know that at 0 F the food shouldn’t spoil. It is 32 deg. F below freezing point and is the recommended setting.

If it doesn’t then it may be that there is a faulty temperature sensor for the freezer - part #610C Case Assembly parts

Here’s how to test the freezer sensor. Using an Ohmmeter, measure the resistance of the freezer temperature sensor at a known temperature (use the thermometer?) and then check that against the temperature/resistance chart for the sensor to get an idea if it is OK or not. Do all testing with the power disconnected from the refrigerator.

This refrigerator has 4 temperature sensors. Two in the refrigerator section - parts #610B & 610D case assembly parts and one each in the ice bank - part #600B ice bank and freezer sections (see above) so it may be a bit complicated trying to find which one is the problem if you’re having problems with the ice as well as the control board may be having to juggle the temperatures (resistance) being sent from all 4 to get the required result for each particular area.
