Laptop water damage from rain, zero responsiveness

Hi there my MacBook was left outside, unplugged and with lid open briefly during a spontaneous downpour and had enough water on it to create a puddle on the keyboard…. was not too happy with that sight.

anyway, immediately as I was trying to dry it off it still worked and I turned it off straight away and tried to drain some water off the keyboard, when I opened the back case there was a bit of water that had dripped all the way down to that case lid even in the middle.

A while after switching it off the fans came on madly by themselves almost as if it had detected a problem, I tried to do a force shut down to stop any electrical stuff going on but the power button didn’t work at all, at which point I unplugged the battery. I left it to dry out for a couple days but still no response from power button or even the MagSafe charger light turning on when plugged in.

So the water definitely got in there but i’m just not sure how bad the damage really is. I’m considering attempting to replace the D.C. in board or the power button but do you think it’s worth trying to fix these things or does it sound beyond reasonable help without replacing the logic board and whatnot, for which I can probably find a new MacBook for that price. Is there an easy way to determine the damage to the essential parts to assess if it’s worth it etc?

edit: the pictures i’ve added show some corrosion on the logic board, let me know if it’s necessary to see the other side and i’ll take it out fully but if it’s already visibly damaged beyond a scrub/repair then I won’t bother taking it apart further and find a replacement laptop.

i guess this is why the keyboard wasn’t working…

heres the affected parts on the other side of the logic board,

not looking good either,

So do you think these components need replacing or will an alcohol scrub do the job? Or is it too hard to say?

a few of the cable connectors have corrosion on them aswell…

Thanks heaps everyone you guys are legends!

If I were you, I would take this sucker apart, and look (and post) pics of the water damage. It’s hard to tell if there are no pics.

Ah yeah I can see there's a lot of affected components that must have shorted out and are now corroded, the spread of damage is just too far. She's done I think!!

Thanks for your help! :)

Yeah. Its unfortunate that it had to go down this way, but to me, it doesnt look like its gonna be fixable. If it is, it would probably end up costing more than a new mac. :( Sorry bout that

@crabapplejames - There is one possibility left here! Replace the logic board with a 2012 version. That way you can hang on to your great system. These are still highly sought after! As they got the PORTS and have serviceable RAM and storage.
