Why is home button not responding?

So home button is not responding. Took it to someone who said they could fix it, but didn't. Everything else seems to work but can't really tell since device was factory reset. Have you guys run into this problem? Read online about applying pressure to one of the ribbons. Not sure. Could it be a motherboard issue?
