What to do in event of water damage to keyboard

Hello,

last night while video chatting with friends in our bed, wine spilled onto our Microsoft Surface Book 2 (13.5 in) keyboard. It seeped into the keys and while we were chatting, the battery began to sound like it was sizzling, got extremely hot, and let off a burning smell. We shut the Surface Book 2 down, and left it facing upside down in a baggie of rice. When we went back to test it this morning, all of the keys were unresponsive and the battery was making a buzzing noise.

There is no warranty for it And the cost of an entirely new laptop is too much to afford at the moment. Please, if you have any ideas as to what we can do to fix or replace the battery/ keyboard it would help very much.

Thank you for your time. I’m looking forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Mike O

Replace just the lower half then, it’s usually cheaper than replacing the entire laptop.

Rice does not work, if you need to ask about water damage repair, you can’t do it. Also why would you turn it upside down? It’s a convertible and you are risking water flowing back up to damage the other half. Unless you open it, prop it upside down, this probably should work better.
