2015年3月更新的 13 英寸 MacBook Pro 配备 Retina 显示屏,型号为A1502,采用第五代英特尔酷睿 i5 和 i7 处理器,并配备 Force Touch触控板。

MacBook won't turn on unless plugged in, battery and Magsafe working

Hello,

I have an early 2015 13” MacBook Pro Retina which had water damage. It was disassembled and cleaned out; the battery was replaced with a third-party new one.

All seems to work well, with one exception: it will not turn on on battery power alone. It will, however, turn on while plugged in, and then run on the battery once unplugged. Charges fine, too.

This is particularly strange behavior. I had previously measured several different points on the motherboard and battery board to ensure everything was working as expected, and that's all good.

Is there a particular point on the board I should look at for this? Is it possible the new battery is faulty in some way?

Thanks in advance.

More likely your logic board still has liquid damage. Did you fully remove it? The back side is the side which has the SMC logic which could still have junk on it. I would take the board out and put the board into an ultrasonic to really clean it as the ultrasonic action can get into areas you can’t. If that’s not an option then using a soft tooth brush and distilled water I would carefully scrub the board areas that god wet. Be very careful as you can pull off or damage the small SMT devices. And lastly using flux and a hot air rework station to reflow the components in question.

Most of this required gear you likely don’t have so you may need to find someone with the proper tools and the needed skills.

I did fully disassemble it. I don’t have an ultrasonic, but I gave it a go with pressurized contact cleaner, followed by distilled water and a toothbrush. I’m totally baffled.

I did find one other person complaining about this on another forum, where it was suggested that one of the keyboard or trackpad cables is at fault. I’ll be testing that next, by shorting the power pads once I disconnect the two cables.

The contact cleaner could have done you in ;-{ Many have oil in them which can coat everything! I never use it! The oil can then prevent the distilled water or even the alcohol to get to the junk.

If the power pads work that points to a damaged keyboard cable or more likely the keyboard its self.

Progress! Removing either one of the I/O board cables fixes the issue. I have also tried changing the I/O board and cable — same issue, so I can only assume this problem is with the mainboard.

Where can I find out what the two cables are for? Since detaching the smaller one also works, I'd look at what components that connects to.

The ribbon cable is all of the ports and the AirPort board that sits on the I/O board. The smaller cable with discreet wires is the connection from the typical DC-In board MagSafe connector which brings the power from the MagSafe charger to the logic board.

Thanks for your help! That's what I thought it was, but hoped otherwise. Basically, no power to I/O is the same as the data ribbon disconnected. I also discovered the trackpad is an intermittent cause as well. Replacing it and removing I/O board works.

So, no option but to pull it all out and try cleaning again, but as you mentioned, I may have toasted it with oil under the SMC. I'm not great at soldering, so if this doesn't work, it's pretty much out of my hands.
