E60-E3 Pop and crackling when powered up now no power at all.

When the power button was pushed it popped and made a crackling, fizzle sound of a burn. I found a burnt connector on the main board where 2 pink and 2 black wires go out to 2 individual connectors on the leds. The wires are completely burned off at the mainboard connector. I’m a novice at best but I know enough to keep from killing myself or burning down the house and the way I do that is ask questions. Based on my limited knowledge and from what I’ve learned by researching, I believe the problem is bad led strips. A short caused the burn. I’m not sure how to begin diagnosing the cause and the extent of the damage. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Hi @endeavourniche ,

Did you mean the power board or is it the mainboard?

I only ask (and I don’t know about Vizio) because usually in TVs the backlight LED power is fed from the power board and not the mainboard but I’m willing to learn ;-)

You will need a DMM (digital multimeter) and know how to use it and possibly a LED tester to determine which of the LED strips may have the fault which caused the excessive current to flow and burn out the connector and also possibly damage components on the board supplying the power.

Did you notice any burnt out or heat stressed components on the board where the connector is burnt out?

Take some close up images of the board in question and post back. Perhaps someone may spot something that you haven’t noticed. Here’s how to do this. 在已经存在的问题里加入图片.

Here’s a link to a video that shows how to replace the LED strips in a Vizio TV. I realize that it is not for your exact model but it should be close enough to be of some help in gaining access to the strips so that they can be inspected and tested.

As to the board you may be able to find a schematic for the board by searching online for (insert board number) schematic which will make it easier to find out what may be damaged etc. You can be lucky that there may be one available. It pays to look.
