2014 iMac Dead/Stuck Pixels After SSD Upgrade

Hello!

I recently removed the screen of my 27” iMac to replace a dead HDD with a new SSD. After the repair, there are pixels that are “stuck” along the left and right edges. They do not appear when the display is a bright color, but they are very visible when the display is black. I am wondering if this is likely LCD panel damage, or perhaps a cable isn’t seated all the way?

Just curious of thoughts on this issue.

These look like pry marks. Besides using the cutter what did you use?

It's not pry marks, I didn't pry the display at all. I used suction cups (not in the area that is showing this issue). I gently used the wheel tool to remove the adhesive, and I did not force the display open.

Often the display gets damaged by using the wrong tools and/or stressing the display when taking it off.

What I suspect happened is you pressed up with a object which had a slight bump during the prying action this bump pressed along the back of the screen causing the liquid crystal to be squeezed out at this location of the pressure. Thats why you have a white make as the backlight is not being blocked by the polarization of the liquid crystal material. Most of the time I see more of a line of a screwdriver blade or spatula press than a dot as you have. Being small it’s possible they will fade over time as the liquid will ooze back as long as the back plate is not bent. Otherwise you’ll need a new display.

I did use the correct tools. I did not notice any event that would make me even remotely believe any actual damage occurred.
