New Battery Bad / Dead already?

Hi everyone!

I just tried replacing the battery on my surface pro 4 and it is not turning on anymore. I suspect the new battery (Type DYNR01 / G3HTA027H) to be faulty as I measure 0V between the pos. and neg. pad on the end of the ribbon cable. However I am not sure if and what I am supposed to measure on a battery that is disconnected. Between the pos. and neg. pads are also 4 additional Pads (SMBD, SMBC, DET & INT).

Does someone know if there should be a measureable voltage between the pos. and neg. pad even when the battery is not connected? And if not, can someone give me a hint where on the motherboard I should be able to measure a voltage when the battery is connected?

That would be a tremendous help!

Thanks in advance!

Add: I did check the known resistor close to the cpu as well as the diodes that often times turn bad. But both seems to be ok. If anyone knows more parts I should check please let me know!

Yes, there is supposed to be a voltage (about 6,6 - 8,4V) between the pos and neg terminal of the flatcable pads of the battery even when disconnected.

On careful inspection I noticed a solder bridge between two pins of the BQ40Z50 IC on the battery’s own pcb. Removing the bridge resultet in finally getting an output on the main terminals. So I was sent a defective after market battery.

Would you be able to post pictures of the IC? I have 2 defective after market batteries with potentially the same issue. Did you ever find a place on the motherboard to measure the battery voltage?
