A Kenmore 80 Series washing machine grinding when spinning could be caused by a number of things, including:

A worn-out drum bearing or broken drive pulley
A failed motor coupling
A worn tub bearing
A broken or fallen-off tub spring
A clogged or defective drain pump
An overloaded washer
A foreign object caught between the inner and outer basket
