Blu-Ray drive won't eject disk; no sound feedback either
Hello there :)
So, a while ago, my trusty ps3 slim (model 3004B) started acting weird when I wanted to eject a disk; it would try to follow the command, and the drive would make its whirring sound, but the disk would remain stuck. I tried the internet's advice of keeping the button pressed for a longer duration, and the system beeped a few times quickly, and tried to spin out the disk with what sounded like more force. It usually worked when I tilted the ps' front downward, and the disk would come out.
I was dissatisfied with the situation, though, and decided to try and repair it myself. The ps must be more than 5 years old by now, so I wasn't worried about the warranty.
I followed a youtube video (link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU952Tkt...) step by step, carefully copying each step because this was my first disassembly. Everything went well and just like in the tutorial ... Until the part at 08:40 came up, where you're supposed to reset the Bluraydisk from "cd inserted" mode to "empty" manually. In the video, the instructor lifts the white plastic cog and immediately, things snap into place. He goes on by showing how the arm handle on the front is now in the reset position, etc. Now, nothing much happened when I lifted the cogwheel in my drive. Nothing magically snapped back into place on its own. It got me worried, and i tried fidgeting around at a movable black part right next to where the white cog usually sits. I pulled it towards the cog's center rotation cylinder, and finally, things snapped into place just as in the video. I hoped that this small disturbance wouldnt mean anything.
Assembling things back followed, it went ok. I struggled quite a bit with re-inserting the bluray's ribbon cable into a clip on the motherboard. But I thought I managed, eventually.
Now, I say "thought" here and there, because something must have gone wrong down the path.
I got the ps back into shape, plugged it in, everything went fine. The bluray still reads and starts disks without a problem. I was positive. Then I tried to eject the disk via main menu --> game disk options --> remove disk.
And it got stuck again. Same with pressing the button/holding it for an extended period of time. But some things are different, dare I say worse, than before me trying to "fix" it:
- The sound of the stuck drive is now louder, lower, slower and just somehow more terrible than before.
- Tilting won't get the disk out, neither will sticking in another CD through the front lid do.
- The drive doesn't react with any acoustic signal. While there were different beeping patterns when it worked normally and when it got stuck the first few times, I'm now met with silence, no matter what command I give the drive. Note that when I power the system on, it still bleeps as usual.
I'm stuck with an even worse situation than before. The drive sounds unhealthy when trying to eject and I can't get a disk out without disassembling the entire thing.
I’m worried that I damaged the drive by forcing the bluray drive’s components back into “empty” position with too much force, or that I damaged the ribbon cable or inserted it incorrectly when clipping it back onto the motherboard. What could have gone wrong? Is it worth the risk of repeating the video in hope that this time it will make things better?
Thank you for your help.
