I have thousands minutes of family recordings in this format. Can this be repaired? or can I at least get the tape out and look for someone to digitize all of my tapes? I will need to edit them on my iMac. Who do you know?

The error message indicates that there is a problem with the take-up reel side of the camcorder. This can be fixed by someone with experience repairing camcorders and is a relatively common error code. Sometimes you can retrieve the tape by rewinding it to the beginning. This function does not involve the take-up side directly and might work. Basically what is happening is that the system is detecting that the take-up reel is not turning and the camera is shutting down to prevent the tape from “spilling” into the camera which would result in damaging the tape.
