How can I fix vertical solid white bar on Hisense tv

So I received a Hisense television from a friend. According to him it was previously a gray/black vertical bar that you could see through but when I turned it on it was a fairly big solid white vertical bar on the screen. If I could get some help with solving this that would be great.
