Nintendo Switch battery drained when docked and playing

Hello, I recently picked up a used Switch. This happened when I was playing in docked mode with the original dock and cable.

Things seemed good, but the other day, when marathoning a game, I noticed the screen kinda flicker between pixelated and regular resolution. I realized that despite being in the dock, my switch said it was at 1% battery. I stopped playing and left the console for a bit and now it’s fully charged.

The battery seems to have drained while I was playing pretty intensively for a fair amount of time. I’m wondering if this is a sign of some sort of issue that might be worth fixing.

I haven’t opened up the switch to check if the fans need cleaning, although I wonder if that’s advisable. Not sure if this is a sign that some part needs replacing.

For reference, I’m also using one of those USB adapters to use a PS4 controller with my switch. I don’t know if that also significantly increases power consumption. Also, my room is air conditioned.

When did you purchase it? There should be a warrenty although you would have to check on nintendo support, you might possibly even be elegiable for the new power efficent Switch if it was only in the last month or maybe July.

Thanks for your reply!

I got a used Switch, so it's not under warranty. This issue isn't so severe that I'm unable to play, but I am curious as to whether it's something I should take some sort of steps to fix. (And if it's possible, I guess.)

I'm aware that there's a new Switch replacing the old model, but decided to get a pretty cheap used one instead, since I don't plan on playing outside of docked mode very often.

Ok fair enough, I don't see why that adapter would cause such a strain but you could try updating the firmware. Did the seller specify why they were selling it?

I got it from kinda a big store. Their policy is that anything unusual on their used goods will be noted, but otherwise, it should be fine.

My Switch itself is up to date.

I've not been periodically checking the battery when playing and yet to encounter any drainage again, but I think perhaps I'm doing less intensive things then I was at that point. I'm guessing this wouldn't be expected behavior from a Switch though, which is why I was wondering if it might be a sign of some sort of mechanical issue that could potentially worsen.
