How to replace metal plate/assembly mounted on back of the LCD?

I need to replace the LCD on an Iphone 3G.

When the LCD arrived it did not come with the metal backing plate. Do I simply swap the plate to the new LCD? I did this before and the plate came attached to the new LCD.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Take off (pry) the plate from the damaged LCD very carefully. Don't worry if you damage the LCD, just make sure you do not bend the plate. LCDs come with and without the plate. Let us know how it works out!
