Why are all my headphones breaking

I had an Xbox 1 since they came out and this is the worst problem so far. It started with a nice pair of turtle beach head phones. I lost the piece your suppose to connect it to with the controller so I just plug it into the head phone jack directly and it worked fine for a year. But then it stoped registering that head phones were connected. I plugged it into my tablet and it worked fine but the left speaker stopped working. I thought the head set was getting old so I didn’t think much about it so I bought another pair. And the the same thing happened in less then a week. It stopped working on the Xbox and the left speaker is broken. This can’t be a coincidence.
